The Piedra Roja (Red Stone) Commercial Center is located in the heart of the new urban complex of Piedra Roja (the Red Stone neighborhood, which is between the districts of Chicureo and La Dehesa). This new commercial area delivers different services –supermarkets, shops, restaurants- within its colonial looking façade-construction, its large (fake) lagoon and pristine yacht club.
The floor plan of this 100 m2 NL store has an irregular shape. This quirky characteristic became an advantage and was an opportunity to make a special sale area for rolls of paper and supplies. Center gondolas were placed throughout the store, creating the most “gondola heads” possible. This way, from the entrance of the store the customer seems invited to head over and browse in the self-service area.
This is the first chain store that was constructed without a window display towards the outside. Instead, a glazed glassed vain was constructed, completely clear of any visual interference, was constructed. This provides an open and broad view towards the interior of the store, putting the store itself on display.
To differentiate the access area, the purchasing and information counter, the help-yourself aisles and paper supply areas, different types of “ceilings” were constructed. These defined each area with a unique height and lighting.
